MICHAEL
ANDREW and SWINGERHEAD
'BREAK' INTO A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE
(ON A MOMENTS NOTICE)
For immediate release: Tuesday, May
23, 2000 (Orlando, Florida) -- On May 4th, 2000, the Swingerhead
Central office (Orlando, FL) received a phone call from Hollywood
music supervisor, Maureen Crowe ("Money Talks",
"Bad Boys", "The Bodyguard", "Mask",
"True Romance", "Newsies"), asking for recommendations
on singers and bands suggesting that Michael Andrew could be a contender.
She was looking for a group to portray the wedding band in a scene
in the upcoming MGM major motion picture, "Heartbreakers"
starring Sigourney
Weaver, Ray Liotta,
Gene Hackman,
Jennifer Love Hewitt,
Anne Bancroft, Jeffrey Jones, and Jason
Lee. It's a comedy of a mother daughter con-artist team
(Weaver/Love Hewitt). Swingerhead Publicist, Stace
Bass, sprang into action, fedexing the best Swingerhead promotional
materials including the new video footage from Swingerhead's recent
sold out appearance with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra
at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center showcasing exactly what they
were looking for their film. Then Stace started the countdown
clock to make all the necessary arrangements.
After viewing the footage and reviewing
Andrew's resume, producer Irving Ong and Maureen Crowe paid
a visit to Merv Griffin's Beverly
Hilton (Beverly Hills, CA) where Michael
Andrew was performing with the west coast unit of Swingerhead
Saturday, May 5th. Andrew was offered the on-camera part of
bandleader/singer that night and, therefore, needed to produce
12 musical tracks for the band to sync to during the actual filming.
Despite the band's hectic schedule, Michael returned to Orlando and
had the Orlando Swingerhead unit record the 12 tracks in Andrew's
studio. All this was completed just in time for Michael to fly
back to LA for the actual filming early on Wednesday, May 10th.
Emmy award winning film and television
director, David
Mirkin ("Newhart", "The Simpson's",
"Tracy Ullman Show", "Larry Sanders Show", "Get
a Life", "Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion")
filmed the wedding reception scene which included 177 extras, Sigourney
Weaver, Ray Liotta, Michael Andrew, and some of the LA based Swingerhead
band. The scene took about 25 hours to shoot and wrapped at
10:00pm on May 11th.
Andrew flew out the next morning to meet
his east coast band in Hawaii, where they all performed on a big band
cruise throughout the Hawaiian islands (5/10 5/17). After
a one-night stint in Washington D.C. (5/18), the band returned to
Orlando (5/19) to perform a fundraiser for The Southern Ballet.
Then... Andrew flew to LA once again to perform 5/20 at The Coconut
Club at the Beverly Hilton (his Saturday night residency). He
is planning to stay put for a few weeks so he can calculate his frequent
flier miles and recover from some minor jet lag.
Andrew also enlisted the services of Capitol Recording Studios
in Hollywood to record some of the songs for the movie.
The movie, "Heartbreakers"
is on its 3rd week of a 62-day shoot. MGM Pictures plans
to release this comedy film Spring 2001.
An accompanying soundtrack is also in the works. Stay tuned.

1999
(7/3/99) Per 'Upcoming
Movies.com: "This film has been bouncing around at MGM since
1996, when they announced it as starring Anjelica Huston and
Alicia Silverstone. Then, in early 1999, it was Cher
and Jennifer Aniston. Well, now (12/6/99), comes a Variety
article that it's Sigourney Weaver, with Jennifer Love-Hewitt
in talks. This is an excellent example of how a project changes through
its development... these three different pairings conjure forth three
very different images of a movie. Interesting..."
2000
(1/19/00)
Per 'Upcoming
Movies.com "Okay, well,
Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love-Hewitt are now signed;
next up in talks is Kevin Kline. (3/14/00) Add Dogma costar
Jason Lee to the mix. (3/27/00) Gene Hackman has joined
the cast... no word yet on whether he's playing the part Kevin
Kline was in talks for or if Kline is still in the film. Also,
the title is back to The Breakers. (4/4/00) The Hollywood Reporter
ran a story adding Ray Liotta to the cast... but they also
listed the title once again as Heartbreakers. It's not known which
is the current/correct title. The production date has also been pushed
back one week. Finally, it looks like Kevin Kline is not going to
be involved with this movie, as he hasn't been mentioned in some time.
(5/16/00) Jeffrey Jones has joined the cast. (5/23/00) The
Hollywood Reporter now lists this film as The Breakers again. Also,
Anne Bancroft has joined the cast. (5/28/00) MGM has scheduled
this movie for February, 2001, moved back from a possible fall, 2000
release. It's also confirmed that the title is The Breakers. (6/24/00)
Nora Dunn has also joined the cast. Also, from The Hollywood Reporter
comes 4 more screenwriter names (Dunn, Buck, Mirkin, Robinson).(6/27/00)
The flip-flopping of the title continues... the title could still
go back to The Hearbreakers, it appears. (7/21/00) MGM has opened
up production pages to track several of their projects, and that confirms
that the title is now officially Heartbreakers. (11/15/00) MGM has
bumped this up over a month from February to April 6th, 2001."
May 23 - 11:00am - THE CALL comes in from Maureen
Crowe, acclaimed music supervisor.... Maureen has worked on several
recent blockbusters including HEARTBREAKERS and THE PERFECT
STORM, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring George Clooney
and Mark Wahlberg. Her greatest career success to date was the Whitney
Houston/Kevin Costner starrer, THE BODYGUARD, which boasts
the biggest selling soundtrack of all time, is the fifth best selling
record of all time and received every major award of that year including
Grammys® for Best Album of The Year and Record of the Year, multiple
awards from Billboard and the American Music Awards, and two Oscar
nominations for best song. In addition to supervising the music for
the entire soundtrack, Crowe is credited with finding the song

JANUARY 2001
Michael Andrew views an advance cut of this film
and sees he made the final cut! Two of the 6 songs he recorded and
produced to appear... Frank Sinatra's "The Best
is Yet To Come" and "Come Fly With Me".
Unfortunately, Andrew's rockin rendition of a great Bad Company
tune didn't get in. A soundtrack for this film is in the works
with lots of great artists.
Orlando Weekly Music Editor writes, "In
"Heartbreakers," a feature film released in 2001, Andrew was seen
fronting a wedding band played by the members of his West Coast outfit
- while an overdubbed amalgam of his California and Florida sidemen
wails away on the soundtrack. Their onscreen medley of honkin’ classics
includes a cover of Bad Company’s "Can’t Get Enough." Though
it’s hardly a Sinatra standard, a better anthem for this workaholic
warbler has yet to be written."
A feature article on Michael Andrew appears in
a special feature in LA's premiere arts and entertainment magazine
- here's the venice magazine feature.
He highlighted his film making adventure including the funny story
on how the actors first thought Michael Andrew was lip syncing to
someone else's voice. When they learned it was him - boy, were they
impressed! Sigourney gave him a wink and a thumbs up!
